But the recommendation platform loses something earlier: the query, the comparison process, the recommendation interaction and some of the decision-stage signals and advertising opportunities around them. In the current architecture Amazon both owns the recommendation environment and supplies its only built-in adviser through Alexa for Shopping. If outside AI advisers become the place where Shoppers naturally ask what to buy, defending Alexa's exclusivity may protect the Provider while weakening the platform. A more platform-native response would be governed Provider access: Amazon could keep the Shopper relationship, Seller access and platform rules while allowing approved advisers to compete inside the recommendation layer. This remains a strategic counterfactual, not an announced Amazon architecture."
