Freelancer.com
What happens when dozens of freelancers compete for the same job?
Freelancer.com makes many providers compete for the same piece of work
A client can post a project with a brief and budget, and freelancers then compete by sending bids. In 2025, Freelancer.com reported an average of 54 bids per project. The client can compare price, profile, past work and reviews before choosing who gets the job. For some kinds of work, especially design, the platform also offers contests. Instead of only describing what they would do, freelancers can submit actual entries and the client chooses a winner. Freelancer.com reported an average of 761 entries per contest listing in 2025. This creates a very competitive marketplace: clients get many options, while freelancers have to stand out among many rivals. The platform then adds milestone payments, reviews and dispute tools around the winning relationship so that the work can move from competition to delivery.
