"title": "Hopper turned travel uncertainty into a product that can travel across channels.",
"text": "Hopper is still a consumer travel agency, but its B2B division, HTS, has become the more important part of the business. The technology first built for the Hopper app is now distributed through more than 20 partner channels, including banks, airlines and other travel brands.\n\nWhat makes Hopper unusual is its travel-fintech layer. It does not only help sell flights, hotels or rental cars. Products such as Cancel for Any Reason and Disruption Assistance turn uncertainty around a booking into separately priced services. HTS sells more than 2.2 million of these products a year, and travel fintech accounted for 45% of HTS profit in 2026.\n\nThis creates an unusual platform structure. Airlines, hotels and car-rental companies provide the underlying travel inventory, while banks, airlines and other brands can also distribute Hopper’s fintech products through their own customer channels. The same airline can therefore be both Provider and Partner.\n\nThe platform lesson is that a company can build a valuable new layer around an existing transaction by turning uncertainty itself into a product."
