"title": "Ola changed who pays the platform",
"text": "Ride-hailing platforms traditionally make money by taking a percentage from each fare. Ola has moved in a different direction in India. In June 2025, the company said it had rolled out a zero-commission model across autos, bikes and cabs, allowing drivers to keep the full fare while paying for platform access through a plan instead. Ola's current terms for its auto bidding model show the same basic idea: the rider and driver determine the fare, the rider pays the driver directly, and Ola may charge the driver a software subscription fee. This changes the relationship between the platform and the provider. A driver who completes more trips does not automatically give Ola a larger percentage of every fare; the platform instead has to make its access fee worthwhile by bringing useful demand. The basic marketplace is still the same: riders need nearby drivers and drivers need riders. What changes is how the platform earns money from that connection."
