    "text": "Traditional rental companies usually need to own or lease the vehicles they rent. Turo works differently. A host can list a car they already own, and a guest can book it for a few days or longer. This lets Turo add many different vehicles without purchasing a fleet. But handing an expensive car to a stranger creates risk, so Turo has to do more than match the two sides. It manages identity, payments, reviews, vehicle rules, protection and claims. In 2026, Turo also linked host earnings more closely to risk: hosts can keep a larger share of the trip price when they accept more damage responsibility, and some US markets reward bookings made further in advance. The case shows that a platform can scale supply without owning the assets, but it still has to make owners comfortable sharing them."
